If you love city streets, concrete architecture and a more editorial look, an urban senior session in Minneapolis might be exactly what you're looking for.
Parking garages, rooftops and downtown buildings can create some seriously cool backgrounds.
Why I love urban senior photography.
The city gives us texture, lines and interesting light.
A simple concrete wall can create a clean, modern portrait. A parking garage can give us a completely different look with strong architectural lines and shadows.
Sometimes the background doesn't need to be beautiful in the traditional sense.
It just needs to work with the person in front of the camera.
Parking garages for senior pictures? Absolutely.
A parking garage might not be the first location that comes to mind when planning senior photos.
But the concrete, open spaces and architectural details can create a modern, understated look.
I especially like these settings for seniors who prefer something less traditional.
We can use the lines of the building, different levels and available light to create variety without needing a complicated setup.
Of course, we'll only photograph in areas where photography is permitted and where we can work safely.
What should you wear for urban senior pictures?
Think about the overall look.
Some options I love:
- Baggy or straight leg jeans with a fitted top.
- A jacket or layers over a simple outfit.
- A clean, monochromatic look.
- Sneakers with a casual outfit.
- A more structured outfit for an editorial feel.
You don't have to dress like someone else just because we're shooting in the city.
Your everyday style can work beautifully.
What about posing?
You won't spend your entire session standing against a wall.
We'll use walking, sitting, leaning and small movements to create different compositions.
Some images might be more serious and editorial. Others might be relaxed and candid.
I'll give you direction throughout the session, so you're never left wondering what to do.
Urban senior pictures can still look natural.
A city background doesn't mean your photos need to be heavily edited or overly dramatic, although if we get a dramatic sky we can emphasize that!
I love natural skin tones, modern color and images that still look like the person being photographed.
The location adds character. It shouldn't overpower you.
